Steve was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and moved to the Nashville area at an early age and grew up in the Nashville vicinity. Steve attended Memphis State University and graduated magna cum laude with a major in accounting in 1978. Steve attended the University of Tennessee College of Law and graduated in 1982 (cum laude). Steve is also a certified public accountant (inactive).

After graduating from law school, Steve joined Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) and was a member of the national accounting firm's tax department. Since 1984, Steve has practiced law and during that time, has served as Chairman of the Tax Committee and the Estate Planning Committee of the Nashville Bar Association.  Steve is a member of the American (Tax and Real Property and Probate Sections), Tennessee (Tax Section) and Nashville Bar (Estate Planning and Probate and Estate Administration Committees) Associations.

Steve's primary areas of practice include federal and state income taxation, estate planning and administration, business law (corporate, partnership and limited liability company) and tax-exempt organizations. In addition to representing many clients with their tax, estate planning and estate and trust administration matters, Steve's clients include several closely-held and family businesses and physician practices.

Steve is a long-time resident of the Nashville area and makes his home in Brentwood, Tennessee. Steve is married and has two daughters.
