Julie is originally from
Milan, Tennessee. She attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where
she was a University Scholar and received her B.S. summa cum laude in 1992. While
attending the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis,
Julie received American Jurisprudence Awards and Dean's Awards for Excellence
in Legal Writing, Partnership Tax, Business Organizations I and II, Estate
Planning, and Secured Transactions. Julie received her J.D. with Honors in
1995.
In August 1995, Julie began a position as law clerk to the Honorable Mary Ann
Cohen of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. In June 1996, Judge
Cohen assumed the role of Chief Judge of the United States Tax Court, and
Julie remained as her senior clerk. While in Washington, D.C., Julie pursued
an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University School of Law. She received
her LL.M. with Distinction from Georgetown in May 1997. Julie then joined the
law firm of Boult, Cummings, Conners
& Berry, PLC, where she practiced in the Tax and Corporate groups before
joining Thrailkill, Harris & Wood, PLC in May 2000.
Julie focuses her practice in the areas of federal taxation, estate planning,
mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters.
Julie's federal tax practice primarily is transactional in nature, providing
corporate and partnership tax advice relating to mergers, acquisitions,
divestitures, distributions, and compensation. Julie also assists individuals
with their estate plans. In addition to wills and trusts, Julie has advised
clients on family limited partnerships, charitable trusts, and private
foundations.
Julie has significant
experience in structuring partnership and limited liability company
agreements. She also has assisted nonprofit entities in various endeavors,
including obtaining tax-exempt status.
Julie has been listed as a “Rising
Star” by the Mid-South edition of Super Lawyers in 2008, 2009, and 2010. She was also recognized by her peers in the
Nashville Business Journal’s Best of the Bar for 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Julie is a member of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations and is a
fellow of both the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Foundations. Julie currently serves on the board and is
chair-elect of Westminster School for Young Children. Julie has also served on the board of
directors of l' Ete du Vin and has chaired several
of its charitable events. She also served on the Development Committee for
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and worked with the Young Lawyer's
Division of the Nashville Bar on an annual fundraiser for CASA. Julie makes her
home in Nashville with her husband and two children.
